feedgrids.com is now live and ready to be used and abused! Me and Derek Pittsinger worked very hard to collect all the necessary resources and create a site that displays the best of the web in one place!

Here is a bit about the site:

Providing quick access to our favorite creative resources while exposing new and lesser known feeds all in one place.
Our goal is to join the thriving online creative community and become a helpful tool for the user to find inspiration, education, or just be a source of interesting information. We hope that when people use this site it will in turn direct even more traffic or bring in new visitors to the sites that we follow, admire, and get valuable information from.

This site was created while trying to fulfill a personal need. That need was to have all of the creative feeds from all of the sites that we visit on a daily basis in one place; presented in an attractive, visually interesting way and simply categorized to find what we need quickly.

From that need, feedgrids.com was born! Now we want to share this site with the community.

As we continue to work on new features to make the site better for all of us, we hope to hear from you about the features that you would like to see incorporated into feedgrids.com

The greatest innovators built upon the ideas of others to achieve success. Borrowing from other great minds is not intellectual theft, but rather the core to creative thinking techniques, says David Murray, author of the new book, Borrowing Brilliance: The Six Steps to Business Innovation, published by Penguin Group. Murray offers these examples.

Bill Gates borrowed the idea for Windows from Steve Jobs of Apple after he saw the prototype for the fi rst Macintosh. Jobs borrowed the idea from the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center. Xerox borrowed it from an obscure academic researcher. That’s why they are called the pirates of Silicon Valley.

Larry Page of Google didn’t invent the search engine—he just perfected it. His inspiration for ranking the
importance of a Web page came from academic research papers—the more references an academic research paper gets in other research papers, the more important the paper. He applied that thinking to the Web, reasoning that the more people who link to a site, the more important the site.

Mark Zuckerberg was still a student when he got his idea for Facebook from the face books his school printed every year with pictures of new students. He borrowed an existing concept and put it online where the idea took off.

That is the problem, the idea can be just around the corner but unless you are willing to venture there you might never run into it.

I do this over and over, and even though I know I am not getting anywhere, I still catch myself doing it.

You are probably wondering, what the heck is this guy talking about. I am talking about finding ideas and inspiration when you least expect it, in the most unusual places. You could be driving in to work one morning and something on the radio, something the NPR newscaster says, and BOOM! there it is, an idea!

So stop looking for that next big thing, go about your life and the ideas will come. A lot of times the best ideas are things that make our lives easier, better and more fun! So next time you think “hey, you know what I hate?” Thats it! Make it better! Grab that idea and work on it, craft it, make it into something people can use.

There is no magic in coming up with ideas, everyone has tons of them, true, some people seem to have more than other  but that’s only because they look in the right places, around corners. They spend time working on those ideas, weighing the pro’s and cons, fine tuning, they meet with friends, and team members and build on those ideas.

So, stop stressing and start living, things will come to you, they always do, just be ready!

Artwork can spark ideas and concepts that we never thought about. I try to spend 1 to 2 hours every day searching and getting inspired.
