Flash and the iPhone

In case you live under a rock you already know that Adobe has developed a compiler that will be packaged in Flash CS5 to build iPhone applications from your currently existing Flash Projects. Very cool right?

Quick Plug: Come to TexFlex09, where Danny Dura, Flash Platform Evangelist, will be showing off more information about Flash and the iPhone.

This will change how many developers build Flash projects when it comes to performance and development constraints. Lots of those points were shown at Adobe MAX 2009.

The thing that I find funniest about this announcement is the backlash from the iPhone Development community. They are pissed! Here is my response, “Get over it”. If you development abilities are that strong, you have nothing to worry about – you will still be in demand. If not, well I don’t know what to tell you.

Seriously though, these people are so protective of Apple’s development community that they are going to the gates to fend off the Flash developers, but they are defending a company that is keeping their developers out of their own gates. As always I think competition is good and I think this is a good thing for everyone – especially Flash developers as the open screen project continues to grow.

Long term I agree with many other’s predictions. The iPhone will fall to the wayside as other more open platforms continue to grow, but for now I have a new platform to build on.

In one week Flash developers saw the ability to develop on 9 ft diagonal multitouch walls, cars, all the way down to the iPhone and everything in between. Congrats Adobe, keep up the good work.

For those wanting to see more iPhone and Flash development information, make sure to come to TexFlex09, where Danny Dura – Flash Platform Evangelist – will be showing off more iPhone Development and the first conference showing of the iPhone development since Adobe MAX 2009.
